Hammered Vase
Glass 11" x 9" x 9"

The surface decoration called battuto means "hammered" in Italian as it is reminiscent of hammer formed metal vessels. This traditional cut motif is found in historical examples dating back earlier than the 1st century but re-entered the popular vernacular through the designs of Carlo Scarpa for Venini.

This vase is deeply wheel cut again and again, the overlapping cuts generating a striking geometric pattern that begs to be touched.
